Sometimes I feel frustrated, disappointed or down. For example, I cannot get a good result even if I made efforts. Another one is I feel depressed for no apparent reason. When I feel down, I often eat, sleep or talk with my friends and mother. However, it is difficult for me to find good ways to solve such conditions except detachment reality because I tend to think them badly. Thus, I worry myself too much over.
The biggest problem I always face is to strike a balance between study and hobby. I can only manage to finish preparation of classes and doing assignments, so I cannot have enough time to spend enjoying my hobbies. Especially, I want to study IELTS, Development Studies, radio courses such as French and Little Charo which is English program and reading novels. However, I cannot do them. Thus, what I cannot keep the balance is my main issue.
The problem has afflicted me for a long time. I struggle to get over it; However, I have not found a satisfactory solution yet. I could not achieve the goal in the freshman year, so I set my mind to deal with learning in ICU and what I want to do before starting the sophomore year.
After that, I manage my schedule to finish assignments and preparation as much as possible I can by Saturday. However, eventually, I cannot complete them by Saturday.
Therefore, I could take a little time to spend what I want to do. I would like to break the vicious circle, so I have to change my mind further!
What should I do to change my situation?
Capable leaders including Shacklton give me clues.
For instance, Shacklton is different when he faces adversities. He says “I confess that I feel the burden if responsibility sit heavily on my shoulders; but one the other hand, I was stimulated and cheered by the attitude of the men.” In other words, he does not escape from reality. Furthermore, he faces any adversities with his optimistic spirit. In addition, Seligman suggests “ABCDE model”: Adversity, Belief, Consequences, Dispute and Energy. According to model, the most important part for me is “Energy.” I apt to defeat my negative mind; “I did same things bad again, oh, I feel like a failure…”
I have to break out of negative mind not to repeat the vicious circle.
To achieve this, I must not escape from reality. I have to come face to face with adversities, and improve my issue step by step. That is every way I can think of now.
However, as Lloyd August Ward says “Knock on the door, pull on the handle, and, if you have to, dismantle the hinge.” If I will not step ahead toward my goal, I never change.
I will struggle to achieve it!

4.27 class
Today’s class focused on negotiation and WHAT’S YOUR SENTENCE?
My group, Yurie, Takao and I, reflected and evaluated our previous negotiation.
Our result of it was Buyer 1 buys 5 eggs first. Next, Seller establishes her snake farm and increases the number of eggs. And then, Buyer 2 buys 10 eggs.
However, other group was different results.
They focused on parts of eggs: yolk part and white part.
We did not notice this point!
If we realized it, our result was different.
Thanks to today’s class, I could understand the importance of inspiration and information.
I want to consider deeply to doing next negotiation.
WHAT’S YOUR SENTENCE?
I really enjoyed sharing sentences in my group.
There are many thoughts and goals.
Sharing was very fun and gave me inspiration!
I hope to share other sophomore members’ sentences!!!!!

What's your sentence
"What's your sentence?"
The question is very very difficult…
What’s your sentence?
I have never thought it before 4.20.
My sentence is….
I hope to come true: )
“She made great efforts to give equal opportunities of education to children in developing countries and die peaceful death without regret”
Awawawa….
I have to work very hard to make my sentence in a reality (`・ω・´)!!

Week Two Writing Assignment
I want to get involve in development cooperation of developing countries. Before entering ICU, I have never thought I will engage in such work someday. I would like to be a flight attendant since I was a junior high school student. However, I completely changed my mind. The reason why I hope to cooperate on development is I took the class, “Globalization and Society” in the spring term. Professor Oishi gave me new points of view of developing countries. I was shocked and impressed by her story. After the spring term, I was interested in “developing countries” and “development cooperation.” However, my interests were too abstract, so I did not know what I want to do and what I should do. This condition has not changed yet. Thus, I try to consider my short and long term goal through this week assignment.
Short-term goal
One day, I went to the academic center, and I talked with an adviser. He told me “You should decide how you learn development study because there are many ways to approach.” Thus, I have to decide it at the end of the second year.
My short-term goal is deciding how I approach development cooperation.
There are three possible steps to achieve the short-term goal.
First, I should gain information and knowledge from books, journals, news, lectures etc. I have not read those relating development cooperation ever, so they will help me expand my thoughts and image.
Second, I should talk with professors who study development from various points. I will listen to valuable stories from them because professors have worked in NGO, NPO, UN, governments and so on. In addition, they have learned their major fields for a long time, so they will give me clues and advices through dialogue.
Third, I listen to junior or senior students who major development Studies or other subject relating it. Especially, senior students have to write graduation thesis, so they research and consider very well. Therefore, I feel their inspiration, and they will stimulate me .
I will follow the three steps, and decide to satisfactory major.
Long-term goal
My long-term goal is to assist education in developing countries in the future. There are many steps to fulfill my dream. First, I should decide how I approach development support. I will mention the first step below. Second, I should acquire language skills such as English, French, Spanish and so on. In particularly, I want to focus on education in African countries, so I should master English and French. Third, I should absorb knowledge including relating development support, international relationship, international economics, political situations, history, what people in developing need and so on. There are many kinds of knowledge, so I have to focus on one or two, and then I should master them. Fourth, I want to go abroad to master my specialty. Especially, I hope to go and study in United Kingdom because it is one of the most famous for development Studies. In addition to this, I may share and consider development with students who are interested in it as well as me. Fifth, if I can, I want to participate in Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers because I want to see actual condition in developing countries and consider what I can support for them.
Finally, I hope to work in NGO, NPO, JICA or company relating development support.
I have to stretch a lot of tasks step by step to achieve my goal. However, I will never give up and make my dream come true!

4.20 class
Today’s class focused on negotiation skills.
I have never had such class before, so I looked forward to doing but I was concerned I could speak…
I found negotiation is difficult but interesting.
Today’s negotiation situation was two persons need two oranges.
I worked with Mao.
We tried to reach win-win result but it was not easy ;(
At last, we finished partial win result.
Yoshika’s group succeeded in win-win result.
They noticed which part they want to need; person A needs outside of orange and person B needs inside of it.
If people think well, they can realize people’s position properly. However, it is not simple!
If you want to succeed in negotiation, you have to notice what people really need to reach win-win result.
I practice again and again, and then I want to master negotiation skill.

4.18 class
The class is always interesting for me :)!
Today's class was SOFTEN lesson part 2.
We focused on eye contact and posture when we speaking in front of people such as presentation, introducing their selves and so on.
What is important speaking in front of people is
1. Eye contact (keep seeing at least 2 seconds each person with warm smile )
2. Posture (a little bit lean forward but not to fall)
3. Stability (keep one’s weight on both feet)
4. Position of hands and body symmetrically
I learned those things before practice but it was very difficult to do everything naturally … ;(
In my turn, I was really nervous to speak in front of group members, so I could not make good eye contact and keep body symmetrically. Also, I often raise my eyes heavenward.
I have many tasks to be good speaker…
However, #%’(‘&* speak ( We did first to practice eye contact in the class) was interesting and difficult.

4.13 class
Today’s class was very interesting for me! I have never paid attention to the importance of quality of hand shake and facial expression. I will participate in National Park program in this summer, so I have to master good hand shake to communicate with park stuff and tourists successfully. I will never forget to shake hand firmly, warmly and briefly when I meet someone at the first time.
In addition, Ken told us about a variety of handshake. I have not noticed there are intentions when people shake hands. For example, according to pictures which Ken showed us in this class, President Bush generally smile when he took pictures with presidents or prime ministers from other countries. However, there is a picture which is a little bit different from other pictures. President Bush seemed to look sharply at President Putin. The relation between the United States and Russia may not be good at the time.
We can get information from not only the contents of news but also the pictures. It is interesting, isn't it?
Finally, I’m glad to meet member of LILTDY and attend Ken’s class again!
I hope the class will become enjoyable class

Week One Writing Assignment
I have experienced many mental limits such as entrance exams and the tournaments of club activity and so on. However, I have rarely managed my limits, both physical and mental conditions before entering ICU.
After becoming an ICU student, I had to struggle to survive arduous conditions because of spring term of ELP, especially ARW. During the spring term, I was always pushed into strenuous life. For example, I would often sleep at least six hours every day, but I could sleep at least one hour a week at the end of the term. In addition, I had no idea how to keep good mental balance, so I sometimes depressed. Also, I felt not enjoying my freshman life because it was very hard to manage assignments and classes.
I have never stretched such situations before, so I faced tall wall in front of me. However, I crossed over difficulties.
But what qualities could I get over difficulties: both mental and physical limits?
One reason is my character: I am very competitive girl. Especially, I hate to defeat myself because I feel frustrated when I cannot achieve what I want to do because of my laziness. For instance, I am apt to put my own personal fulfillment before work; I watch TV before completing assignment. Thus, I decide not to ease up on the job even though I have a huge amount of homework. Thanks to my rule, I never gave up and focused my energy on my learning during the term.
Second reason is members of section BI. They always helped and raised me up. If they had not been my friends, I may have not survived spring term. Their smile made me relaxed when I felt depress. Also, they let me forget all about unpleasant things when I frustrated not to express what I want to say in group discussion, when I did not manage well to assignments etc. As can be seen, section BI members support and cheer up me when I felt down, so I was able to keep working.
Final reason is my goal. The reason why I made up mind to enter ICU was I would like to improve my English skills. That is why I could stick with hard classes, assignment, lack of sleep and fatigue during the spring term.
For three reasons, I suffered from enormous challenges during the spring term, but I survived and overcame myself. I believe I can get over any challenges if I keep in mind “never give up”, have precious friends and head toward my own goal.
